Battery Diagnostics for E-Buses – UITP 2025 Preview

15–18 June | Booth A3585 | Hall A3 | Hamburg

A new approach to battery diagnostics for e-buses

At this year’s UITP Global Public Transport Summit, we will present our globally patented approach for analyzing battery health directly during the charging process. This method opens up new possibilities for public transport operators and infrastructure partners to better understand and manage battery condition – without relying on vehicle-side data access.

Battery diagnostics for e-buses is moving beyond complexity. We invite all stakeholders in public transport to visit us in Hamburg and learn how diagnostics can become a scalable, practical part of daily operations.

So, why do diagnostics matter, and why now?

The battery is the most expensive and safety-critical component of any electric bus. Yet for many operators, its condition remains difficult to evaluate. Gradual degradation, defective cells or undetected safety risks can lead to reduced performance, higher costs, and operational uncertainty.

Independent insights are more necessary than ever – also because qualified battery expertise is scarce. Across Europe alone, more than 200,000 battery specialists are estimated to be missing. As a result, the battery remains a “black box” in many fleets.

In approximately 7% of all e-buses we monitor, we identify safety-relevant or performance-limiting issues – many of which would remain unnoticed without external diagnostics.

In one recent case from the DACH region, a transport operator was able to replace nearly new batteries at the manufacturer’s expense after our system detected an early-stage fault. These examples show the importance of making battery condition transparent and verifiable – for operations, warranty processes, and planning reliability.

What to expect at our UITP 2025 booth

vdx sentry – your virtual battery expert

Join us to explore:

  • A live demo of the vdx sentry platform:  from raw data to actionable recommendations
  • Globally patented diagnostics during charging –  an OEM-independent, scalable solution
  • Recent case from the DACH region: a client was able to replace almost-new batteries at the manufacturer’s expense

We will also present our future outlook, which includes integrating battery analytics into depots, backend systems, and service models. Our goal is to make battery health insights a standard tool for every fleet operator: independent, automated, and seamlessly integrated.

Expert sessions on battery analytics at UITP

We’re not just showcasing technology; we’re also sharing use cases and future perspectives. Don’t miss our two speaking sessions:

Monday, June 16, from 2:00–3:00 p.m.
